We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Medical Extern to join our healthcare team. In this internship role, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience by assisting with patient care activities, supporting clinical staff, and observing medical procedures. Reporting directly to Dr. Meyerer, the role includes providing high-quality care to small animals, performing diagnostics and surgeries, educating pet owners, and collaborating closely with experienced staff. We are proud to offer a modern, well-equipped facility that supports high-quality patient care and advanced diagnostics. Our clinic utilizes the Cornerstone software and offers Digital Radiography (X-ray), Clarius Color Doppler Ultrasound with AI-assisted technology, Comprehensive In-House Laboratory (Abaxis and AlphaION Diagnostics systems), Advanced Diagnostic Capabilities, including hematology and culture/sensitivity testing, and K-Laser Therapy for pain management and healing. The practice emphasizes a positive, respectful workplace culture, encourages continued learning in specialized areas, and offers a balanced schedule with no on-call emergencies or walk-ins.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
Assist with patient observation and monitoring vital signs to ensure patient stability and safety.
Support nursing staff with basic patient care tasks such as hygiene assistance, feeding, and mobility support.
Perform catheterization procedures under supervision, including Foley catheter insertion and care.
Conduct physical examinations and assist with patient assessments to gather relevant health information.
Maintain accurate medical records by documenting observations, procedures, and treatment details in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Support the administration of medications and IV insertions following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
Help with tube feeding preparations and monitor patient responses during nutritional support.
Review care plans and assist in updating documentation based on patient progress and observations.
Observe and learn from clinical staff performing medical procedures such as catheter care, vital sign measurement, and physical exams.
Ensure proper infection control practices by adhering to aseptic techniques and maintaining a sterile environment during procedures.
