Description
The Associate Veterinarian works under the direct guidance and supervision of the Owner Doctor(s) of the Helping Paws Animal Hospital. The Associate Veterinarian provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for companion animals, focusing on preventative health, diagnostics, and general wellness. Responsibilities include routine exams, vaccinations, dental procedures, and soft-tissue surgeries like spays and neuters. No emergency medicine required.

This position is with Helping Paws Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As a qualifying employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, employment here may make you eligible for federal student loan forgiveness, which is a meaningful benefit for veterinarians carrying educational debt.
Requirements
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree with an active California veterinary license.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, animal biology, diagnostics, surgery, anesthesia, pharmacology and preventative healthcare.
- Ability to interpret medical records, laboratory results, regulations, and procedural documents accurately.
- Skilled in the use, care and sterilization of veterinary instruments and medical equipment.
- Excellent communication, client service and interpersonal skills with the ability to educate clients and work collaboratively with team members.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills for medical recordkeeping, diagnostic ordering and client communication.
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail required for examinations, treatments and surgical procedures.
- Commitment to practicing high-quality medicine, dentistry, and patient care while upholding veterinary ethics and supporting the mission and values of the Helping Paws Animal Hospital.
- Strong written and verbal English communications skills, including proper grammar and professional correspondence.
